My ‘mews’ and bff, Aífe.

I was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and currently reside in Berlin, Germany. I dwell here with my Irish husband, our son, and a tabby. I endeavour to fulfil a role Ursula Le Guin calls “the artist-housewife” - i.e. someone who tries to attend wholeheartedly to both their creative life and home life simultaneously. I do not always fare well at my work, and have found magic mushrooms to be an extraordinary aid in getting my shit together.

Most of my writing these days is about those elements of my life, which astonish me to no end: the fierce biological forces of motherhood, and the cosmic connectivity of mushrooms. I have taken on the mad task of trying to maintain two separate Substacks in order to address both subjects fully. One is called Mama Dentata, and the other is Cosmic Study Buddies. Each is its own space, but there’s more overlap between the two than you might imagine.

I also run a third Substack for the pure fun of it, called Mixtape Memo. Each post contains a Spotify playlist I’ve assembled around some theme that reflects something happening in my life at that time. I started it on a whim, but its quickly becoming one of the best things I do, in my opinion.

I had the joy of presenting at the Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics in 2018, and they have since included my paper in a formidable book on Animal Ethics and Animal Law. One of my essays was included in Vertebrate Publishing’s gorgeous collection, Waymaking: An anthology of women's adventure writing, poetry and art. Other fine platforms and publications where you can find some of my work include: TOPIA, The Radical Notion, REI, Boneshaker, Oh Comely, Funny WomenMedium, and The Irish Times.

I have started several novels, and finished one. If you like bisexual love triangles, in space, that are based on classic ambient records, we should talk.

I also hold a BA in Political Science, Women’s Studies, & Comparative Literature from University of California, Davis. And an MSc in Global Politics from London School of Economics. In contrast to my fancy degrees, my work experience is a real grab bag of gigs that include: shopgirl, temp, intern, waitress, secretary, bookseller, DJ, and animal adoption associate.
